Environmental Studies

Why would you need one?

Many wind turbine planning applications require an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The Environmental Impact Assessment will determine the extent to which protected species or habitats will be affected by wind turbine installation and suggest actions which can be taken to minimise negative impact. It will also consider effects on landscape and public perception of change.

The Environmental Impact Assessment must be carried out to a high standard to meet the requirements of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. The Northern Ireland Environment Agency ultimately decides if a turbine application can proceed in terms of its impact on the environment.

The requirements for each Environmental Impact Assessment will differ depending on the size and number of turbines and the species, habitats and designations that exist on a site. Wind NI can advise on and carry out all aspects of an Environmental Impact Assessment.
