Mammal Survey

Mammal Survey

Certain mammal species, such as the badger and red squirrel, are protected in Northern Ireland under Schedules 5, 6 & 7 of the Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 or the otter under The Conservation (Natural Habitats, etc.) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 (as amended).  As such it is an offence to disturb these animals or obstruct access to their place of refuge – they are strictly protected.

If a protected mammal species is believed to be present on your site, Northern Ireland Environment Agency will ask for the appropriate surveys to be carried out. Wind NI can carry out such mammal surveys in accordance with Northern Ireland Environment Agency specific requirements to ensure your development proposals comply with the Order and Regulations.

The final report will identify presence or absence of the particular mammal species.  It will highlight mammal activity and behaviour, or its absence, across the site and make recommendations on how to protect the mammal species during construction works and in the future.
