50kW

50kW Wind Turbines are designed for larger farms, irrigation pivots, schools, hospitals, manufacturing and fabrication companies and any other applications requiring 125,000 – 250,000 kWh per year of electricity. There are several manufacturers to choose from and vary in price considerably. Below is an example of what we believe is acceptable in terms of cost for a 50kw to ensure it is a worth while development.

Rated Power : 50kW

Rotor Diameter : 20m

6m/s Output : 160,000kWh

Est. Price Installed : £175,000

Payback Analysis

This payback is based on 100% sell back to the grid. If the power is used from the turbine onsite rather than exporting to the grid, the payback period will be much shorter than quoted.

Estimated Annual Turbine Yield
Estimated annual kWh output from turbine 169,000
Estimated Sell Back to Grid 100%
Annual Income Breakdown from Wind Turbine
Annual Sell to Grid £9,278.100
ROCs earned £30,751.240
TOTAL ANNUAL REVENUE (Gross Annual Income) £40,029.340
Return On Investment (ROI)
Estimated cost of project* £175,000
Payback Period (Years) 4.4
Calculations based on the Following Assumptions
Current ROC (Renewable Obligation Certificate) Value £45.49
Export Rate / kwh (Current rate payable to Generator by NIE) £0.055
Import Rate  / kwh (Current purchase price from NIE) £0.143
Average Wind Speed at Hub 6m/s
* Grid Connection to NIE network not included in price
